Benefit Plan
I am Chairman of our Medical School Benefits Committee.
I would like to know of the variety of benefits available to physicians in faculty practice plans.
We provide:
1) life insurance ($500,000 basic life insurace policy),
2)disability insurance(long term salary continuation of 60% of salrary,
3)medical dental & vision reimbursement with pre-tax dollars(up to $2000 per year),
4)college tuition reimbursement ($7700 per year, $30,000 per lifetime)
5) retirement plan (11% of salary)
6) health insurance for family
Are there any other benefits we should consider for our faculty?
Please comment on the above $$ amounts for these benefits.
Any information is appreciated. |

Medical School Benefits
Full tuition remission at the host institution for the physician & his dependents is a benefit that appeals to many. |

Benefit
A stipends for CME (continued medical education) would encourage phycisians to keep up with current literature and attend meetings. This benifit is present at nearly every institution, and It improves the quality of the staff. It is usually between $3,000 and 5,000, and works on a use it or loose it platform.
In our private practice we also have a seperate stipends for medical organizations dues.

college tuition reimbursement
Our plan allows a physician-member to be reimbursed for college tuition of their children. Our plan allows up to ~ $8000. per academic year to be reimbursed for fall and spring semester. Then ~$3800. for the summer session. For any physican-member, our plan allows up to ~$30,000. for the lifetime of each dependent. |

Retirement Benefit
Mr. Chairman,
Has this question been asked: How do physicians in faculty practice retire?
In the ever globalizing economy where, like flowing water seeking for the lowest point, labor and intelligence seeks the lowest cost, could they retire well (as in well-off)? Could they retire early?
I notice Qualified Plans were not listed (Bravo!); the allusion to, "retirement plan (11% of salary), " I'm assuming this is a pension plan where 11% of their salary each year is invested on their behalf. High-paid professionals, such as the top-tier software engineers whom I plan their very wealthy retirement, require to take advantage of, for the lack of a better work, "loopholes" (because the tax laws are written against them, but lobbyists are hired to poke holes at the laws), the right financial leveraging, and well-structured legal contracts used primarily by the very wealthy. Further, the proliferation of financial planning, like Qualified Plans, aimed at the middle class, actually hinders these top earners from becoming legacy-leaving families.
The best benefit for your faculty is to create a common vision of their very wealthy retirement aligned with what you want to achieve as the Chairman. At the very least, the vision would be, "here, we will focus on you and your legacy."
