AMC buyout of department
Currently I am in an academic medical center with independent corporations for the clinical departments. In recent years some of the less profitable corporations sold out to the hospital and have an RVU compensation arrangement with the hospital. A new agreement was recently signed that will dissolve the remaining corporations and make the hospital the paymaster. The hospital will be buying out the corporations. Our corporation has several offices with older but expensive diagnostic equipment and sizable accounts receivable, as well as our academic reputation. We have heard that the academic chairpersons will receive a large bonus when the department is turned over to the hospital. As a deparment member how can we be certain that we are receiving fair compensation for our corporation? Also, is there a conflict of interest if the department chairpersons receive a large bonus for selling the corporation to the hospital? |
